One extended journey around Australia is being halted following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a distant coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a break. The ship departed without her and returned later that day after the ship staff became aware the passenger was not present.

A major hunt discovered her person the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are looking into the tragedy, together with investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company stated that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" preventing any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of walking or snorkeling.

Family Statement

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the ship left the location after an organised outing without my mum".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a walking group.

"Based on limited details we have been informed, it appears that there was a failure of attention and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have undertaken that might have protected Her life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm period, and she fell ill on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"She was asked her to head down, alone. Then the vessel left, apparently without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that process, or shortly after, mother succumbed, by herself."

Company Position

Via official communication, the CEO affirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with authorities to support their examination".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has occurred" and had provided its full support to the family.

Shipping Sector Procedures

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with forty-six staff, according to company information. It was purpose-built to enter isolated regions of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to transport travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have protocols to record which passengers are getting on or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Leaving covertly or [back] on the ship really isn't an possibility," a specialist commented.

Cruise lines take these methods with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such events from taking place," the authority further stated.

"This is probably a stunning - and unfortunate - isolated incident."
